Bacterial vaginosis or vaginitis is caused by bacterial infection of the vagina. The bacteria gardnerella vaginalis causes bacterial vaginosis. To treat bacterial vaginosis antibiotics are used. When the bacteria multiplies rapidly the urgency to treat bacterial vaginosis comes. This type of infection is common in women who indulge in sex very frequently. However this only affects women and do not affect men who indulge in sex with the woman carrier. Every third woman is expected to get the bacterial vaginosis at some point of their life, hence awareness about how to treat vaginosis can be a good information for women. However this can be prevented. It is always said that prevention of any disease is better than to wait to cure the disease after the incidence. There are several causes of bacterial vaginosis. One of them is having sex without using the condom. This may also happen if the woman likes to use lots of perfumes soap. This may happen if the woman is using any intra uterine device or douching the vagina. At different phases of the menstrual cycle the pH of the vagina is different. This regulates the growth of the bacteria inside the vagina. However bacterial vaginosis can be idiopathic.Due to bacterial vaginosis there is usually grayish discharge from the vagina and this has a fishy smell. This smell and discharge is the worst after having sex or after a period the woman experiences. Once you suspect that you have some infection, you should contact the doctor to get an examination done. After the doctor examines the genital area, a sample of the vaginal discharge may be taken using a cotton piece and then it is sent to the laboratory for testing and confirmation. By the laboratory test the exact cause of vaginosis can be found.Whether the vaginosis is causes by bacteria, fungus or any parasite is known after the test. To treat bacterial vaginosis th doctors use antibiotic therapy. The woman must inform the doctor if she is planning for a child or is already pregnant. Depending on the same the doctor may decide the dosage and type of antibiotic. This is because sometimes adverse reactions of a drug can affect the fertilised embryo in mother's womb. It is a mild condition. However it is easy to treat bacterial vaginosis.Hence if a woman is having frequent vaginosis then consulting the doctor and treating it would be good option. Maintaining proper hygiene also helps.
